The Disenchanted - The other white trash 7"

I was barely 16 on a cold dark winter night that forever changed my life. Exact dates and things like that escape me, hell many moments of my teenage years are a drug/alcohol induced blur but that's ok! they were a blast. I had been into punk for a bit at that point but that night was my exposure to 2 things, a DIY punk show in its truest sense and killer local bands. I remember there being 5 bands on the show but Think Again, Police Line and of course the point of this entry THE DISENCHANTED. Using the lunch money I usually save for Friday night boozing instead of lunch I picked up one of my definitive punk records of high school. The Disenchanted's "The other white trash" 7"

The EP contains six classic tracks of mid paced punk rock that borderlines on the streetpunk/pogo punk end of things. I spent hours upon hours playing as loud as I could classics like "Hardcore chicks vs. skinhead girls" "Theme" and "Opinion" and I still feel to this day are timeless 90's punk classic's, thought people only seem to care if they were there. It's their loss

The Disenchanted have 2 other 7"s and a CD all of which are great, but this is their gem, do yourself a favor and get one, their not too hard to find

Ballast - Sound Asleep LP

To some like myself being a teenager in the mid to late 90's was a very exciting time to be in the punk/hardcore scene. The rise of Crust made a huge impact on many wile most in recent years dose not have the impact or genuine feel to it, like others of the past. After seeing Ballast on their 2nd US tour I picked up their brand new LP after a great set, I was not ready for what i got. The Albums starts off with "Louder then words" which kicks of with a very suttle melodic introduction which might give you the impression you are about to listen to some mid paced crust punk. but then its the 1 minute mark and you and everything hits you like a brick. Blazing fast melodies, catchy guitar hooks, fantastically done and well sung male and female vocals. Think the Intensity of "Vengeance" by Tragedy with the melody and delivery of Poland's Post Regiment (who's Demo's LP will be one of the next records I will be talking about). This is a record that transcends genre's and cliques. Its such a shame this band is no more, I would rate this record in my 10 albums of the last 5 years
RIP Ballast
